Poor service when the map says it should be excellent

The map showing coverage for my area shows it should be the best (5G UW), yet it's absolutely horrendous. I can't get any service in or outside my house, or even miles away. I also live near a busy freeway, rest area, and truck stop, so I don't understand how there's no service at or around my home. I have to use my wifi to do literally anything on my phone, including text or make calls, so when our internet is out we have nothing. One of the reasons I changed to Verizon was the service coverage and the map shows excellent coverage where I am, but not being able to even use cell service at or around my home is ridiculous. Is there some reason there's no service somewhere the map says should be 5G UW?

Is your phone in SOS mode, or you just don't have 5G?

It will show 1 bar of 5G then go down to 1 bar and then usually go sos mode if I try to use it. Sometimes it will connect the call just to drop it and go to sos mode.

If you have your phone set to only use 5G, change it to automatic band selection instead. Verizon uses their 4G LTE network for phone calls, so if you don't have VoLTE enabled on your phone, it can't make calls at all.

princesscoyote, we understand how important it is to have a reliable connection. How often is this happening? Can you check to see if your device has the most up to date software?

Ok I'm coming back to this over a year later. Still same problem. Literally no change. No service in or outside of my house. It might say a bar or two but that immediately goes away upon actually trying to use it, especially voice. It will just go into SOS mode. It's not my or my husband's phone (iPhone 14 Pro Maxes) and we have tried everything. At this point I'm just waiting to have everything paid off so we can switch back to T-Mobile, who doesn't just say they have 5G at my house, but will actually provide it. I don't understand how Verizon can do this. It would be one thing if they said I got 5G and I only got LTE, but the coverage map says UW5G and instead I get SOS nothing. I was offered a network extender, which does help but only when we have internet. The problem is when we don't have internet, which the extender doesn't help with.

Hello, princesscoyote. My apologies to hear you are still having issues with your service. Help is still here. Please share more info. What is your zip code? How far from your home must you go before you notice a positive change in your service?

Wow. Did anyone at Verizon ever reprovision your account, or give you a new eSIM for your phone? There aren't any lakes around that map area you provided, so unless there's some source of strong EMF or maybe an airport nearby interfering with the Verizon signal, I can't explain it either. But dead zones occur with any carrier and there are lots of reasons.
[edit] Forgot to ask: Are those iPhones originally from T-Mobile?
