Been having problems in Philly, recently. Tomorrow will be the fifth tech visit in two weeks.
Have FIOS Landline internet, no phone or TV. Overhead line goes to a junction box outside that splits off to a fiber optic cable, which goes through the wall to the ONT in the basement.
About two weeks ago, we started getting network dropouts, usually starting in the middle of the night (between midnight and 2am) that go until 8:30am - 11:30am in the morning.
Tonight, the network went out at 9:05pm, and is still out now, over an hour later.
First tech visit, they replaced the ONT. Network went down again that night until almost noon the next day.
Second visit, two days later, they checked an old Fiber Optic cable splice on the cable going from the junction box outside to the ONT in the basement, and said it was okay, before “re-splitting” the overhead line that goes to that junction box. Network went down again that night (as it had the previous two nights) until about 9:30 to 10:00 in the morning.
Third visit, yesterday, they replaced the overhead line from the junction box to the power pole altogether. Network didn’t go down again for three nights, but on the fourth night it went down again.
Fourth visit, today, they replaced some box on the actual overhead line, and then connected the new line going from that box to the junction box attached to the front of my house. Network went down again at 9:05pm.
Through all this, Verizon has given my family and I a $6.67 bill credit. Outside of 3 nights, we’ve now lost internet every night from as early as 9pm until as late as noon the next day for the last two weeks.
I don’t even know what the Verizon tech can look at at this point. Maybe replacing the fiber optic cable going from the junction box to the ONT downstairs altogether? Maybe there’s some issue with the entire overhead line that runs the length of my block?
Verizon swears there’s no FIOS Landline internet outage in my area. They’ve been reporting a “TV Channel” outage pretty much every night the past two weeks, but we don’t have FIOS TV, only their internet.
I never thought I’d say this, but I’m seriously considering switching back to Comcast. Really feels like Verizon doesn’t care, as evidenced by the $6.67 bill credit, insistence there’s no outage in my area, and their inability to properly diagnose this issue after 4 tech visits in 9 days.
