Long Delay Before STB Recognizes Remote upon TV Power On

On many occassions I will power on my TV and the HD STB will not respond to the remote for an extended period of time.  I cannot change channels, display menu/guide, etc.  The STB appears to not receive the signal, as the green light on the box does not display with each key press of the remote.  After a period of time (approximately 5 minutes), the STB will begin responding to the remote and function properly.

I'm not sure of all of the scenarios, but this occurs regularly when the STB is already powered on, and I use the TV remote to power on the TV.

Any ideas?

Remote problems have long been documented on this forum. Just for background, you might want to research the topic to see how others coped. Oftentimes IR interference thrown by the TV is suspected as the culprit, with TV modes like "vivid" a factor. Some report certain room ambient light sensors to have an impact, and that disabling these helps. Some report success with mechanical hoods to shield the STB sensor. Keep in mind that when you first power-on the TV, that is when it will draw the most electricity as it warms up, and likely emits the most IR. Others report third party remotes to be OK. It is an ongoing problem, and some research might yield a satisfactory solution for you. Thank you.

I'm having the same issue.  Started after I moved my STB to another room after purchasing a new LCD TV.  Everything works fine after 2-3 minutes.  Interestingly, volume control does work during the delay period.  If it has something to do with interference from the TV, I wonder why it only happens during this initial period and not afterwards.  It is some comfort knowing that I am not the only one with the problem.  I'll try moving the STB further away from the PC and see if that makes a difference.

Thanks for the information.
