Why does my television picture distort so much when there is a flash, or an explosion?

The picture I get on my Sony Bravia 1080p television is normally gorgeous. But whenever I'm watching a movie, or television show, and there is a flash, or an explosion, the television picture is terrible. There's awful pixilation and banding all over the screen. I never see this when I'm watching a Blu Ray, so what gives?

It sounds like a TV problem to me. Since the Blu-Ray works, it could be a TV input or cable.

Try connecting your STB to a different TV input. 

Try connecting your STB with a different cable.

Reverse the STB & Blu-Ray inputs and see what happens.

If you still have a problem, try connecting that STB to another TV.

That should tell you whether or not you have a TV problem, cable problem or the STB is bad.  If it is the STB contact customer support.

What you are experiencing is either from the signal source (meaning the channel network) or the incoming fios line itself has an issue.

It is not the "FiOS incoming line."  It is either the source or the TV reacting to a "bright" saturated picture.
