Convert stand alone Apple Watch line (family setup) to a phone line

My teen son currenly has a stand-alone apple watch (cellular) with Family Setup. I'm getting him a phone. Can the number for the watch line be converted to a phone line, so he doesn't have to get a new number?

Im sure your son will be excited to get a new phone. He can keep his number and activate the phone on it. The only thing that needs to change will be moving to a new phone plan. I have provided a link to view our plans. https://www.verizon.com/plans/unlimited/

Resolution Update: By partnering with support, we were able to help with your purchase questions. If anyone is curious, you can replace devices on your existing lines.
